On 16 June 2018 the Payerne Air Base opened its doors to the public. The JPO 2018 (Journée Portes Ouvertes 2018) was an opportunity for a large and interested public to attend the various operations of the Swiss Air Force airport in Payerne.
This military airport in operation since 1921, which for some years has also been open to civilian flights, is one of the three main Swiss Air Force air bases.
For the JPO, military personnel exposed all the operations that daily or on special occasions take place in the base. There were several demonstrations on the ground that showed both maintenance operations and emergency response in the event of an accident. But very interesting were the aerial demonstrations of SAR and Air Police with the demonstration of take-off and interception of an aircraft. Finally also a demonstration of fire extinction with an EC635 helicopter equipped with “Bambi Bucket”.
To surprise the audience there were also several displays of the Swiss air forces, which began with the flypast of the Patrouille Suisse and continued with the SuperPuma display team. At the end of the flight demonstrations, the splendid show of the Swiss Hornet Solo Display.
