Covid19 strikes again, even if the pandemic seems to diminish its effects, there is still no total security for many events.

The organization of the RAF Cosford Airshow today announced with a press release the cancellation of the 2021 edition of the famous and always awaited British airshow.

The Raf Cosford Airshow is the only airshow officially supported by the Royal Air Force in Great Britain, and has been held almost continuously since 1978, the year of the first edition.

Only for a few occasions the airshow didn’t take place and over the years it has always welcomed more and more spectators enthusiastic about the performances of the various displays. In recent years, the RAF Cosford Airshow has welcomed more than 50,000 spectators for each edition.

The only “obstacle” for this airshow is the length of the runway (1100mt.) which forces some of the participating aircraft to use RAF Shawbury air base in the West Midlands as a station.

The airshow has always offered an extensive program for its one day of performance, impressing spectators every year with an ever-changing show and always with new guests.

Royal Air Force 100th years Anniversary

In 2018 it was the official RAF airshow for the celebrations of its 100th anniversary. With its numerous guests from many of the world’s air forces and with the hope of bringing the airshow to more days, the RAF Cosford Airshow is hoping to achieve RIAT notoriety.

Unfortunately, with today’s announcement, another canceled edition is added to the history of this event.

The organizers, following the decision of the British Government to postpone the lifting of the restrictions for Covid19 for 4 weeks and also due to the spread of the Delta variant of the virus, cannot guarantee the proper conduct of the event in total safety.

It was therefore preferred to cancel the event and postpone the organization to 2022 hoping with all possible safety for the participants.

We agree with this decision and we will look forward to returning to RAF Cosford Air Base in 2022 to be able to admire the exhibits of the numerous participating displays and the ever-present Red Arrows.
