Trident Juncture 18 – “It is happening in the air, on land, at sea and in cyberspace” 

From 25.10.2018 to 07.11.2018 NATO’s allied forces are testing their ability to defend our people and our territories in the greatest NATO exercise in recent years.
It is taking place in areas including central and eastern Norway, the surrounding areas of the North Atlantic and the Baltic Sea, including Iceland and the airspace of Finland and Sweden.

As the event’s motto says: “It is happening in the air, on land, at sea and in cyberspace”.
The event will take place on all fronts, even on the new front of Cyberspace, and will involve a large number of vehicles and people revealing the largest exercise of NATO allies in recent years.
As communicated by NATO commands: around 50,000 people from the 31 NATO and partner countries will be involved with around 250 aircraft, 65 ships, up to 10,000 vehicles.

Admiral James G. Foggo, Commander of NATO’s Allied Joint Force Command Naples, will direct the operations that will have their main base in Norway and which will engage all forces in a major exercise of large-scale defense. Training in hard winter situations for ground troops will also be very challenging.

General Denis Mercier, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT) in NATO, said that the reason for an event of this magnitude is due to the need to bring NATO forces into a new and higher level of defense that can tackle the new ones. scenarios that could engage the allies.
